Above is a picture which represents Child Labor & Abandonment, shot by Saif Zafar. Tell us what this image represents to you in words … what feelings it ignites in you as you look at it & what you feel can be done by us to help do away with this evil. Give us ideas and solutions – how can we work together as a responsible nation to address this? We encourage constructive / positive feedback. Remember, WE are the change bringers. We have the power!
After a month, we will be picking the best from all your comments / solutions [yes, Ink will reward you!] and hopefully will come to a conclusion on how to collectively work towards eradicating or at least creating awareness about this issue, amongst the general public, decision makers / NGOs etc. Let us use this as a platform!

Broken and disheveled,
Beaten and bruised,
My body is still healthy,
My mind’s been abused.
No one can really tell,
Nobody really cares.
I’m alone in my prison,
Sanity slips through the tears
The Sindh Education Foundation based in Karachi runs a program called the Child Labor Education Program(CLEP). It can be used as a study to form other such programs. A research was conducted in the Shershah area which showed that for these children work is important as they support their families. CLEP provides a platform for those kids to come whenever they get time to learn even the basic stuff such as reading and writing. A Child Development Centre was setup in Shershah where children can com over from 9am till 9pm. For more information log on to: http://sef.org.pk/clep.asp
I have worked for the foundation for 5 years and for me this was the best implemented program result wise.
As children all over the world are like ROSES so caption for this snap would be
” A rose is selling bunch of roses “
IF PEOPLE ARE READING OR CAN READ THIS. CAN EASY UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF THIS PIX AND THE WORDS DEPTH.
Broken and disheveled,
Beaten and bruised,
An excellent message. We should create the awareness among labor about the benefits of PESSI, EOBI etc
Khuda kary, mere araz-e-pak par utray

This makes me appreciate my life and that of those surrounding me. This really is a heart-breaking reality of our lives that these small children has to be out and about 8-10 hours or even more, to support their families. On the other hand, we, well off get frustrated on small things like not being able to watch our favorite programs on TV because of frequent load-shedding. I just hope and pray that Allah Mian grant these children a healthy, good and long lives, and do not get bogged down in crime and other unsocial activities, once grown up….ameen.
Childhood LOST !!!
First of, when I look at the picture I don’t feel sad or outraged. I admire the photographer’s skill and also appreciate the cute kid and his innocent posture and bearing. Next I think about what this picture means and what does this little boy need? Does he need to be taken off the streets and allowed to play and be free? I’m not so sure, what I do see is that he needs a pair of shoes-that’s something we can easily provide right? In a country where a billion rupees is spent on fleeting TV ads and full page print insertions and incessant radio and huge billboard exposure, where the rich feast and the poor fast while the rest of us in between go to bed with full stomachs can’t we buy a child a pair of shoes? Is it wrong that he’s working on the streets? How can we judge? Can we see the whole picture of his life’s circumstances or do we just engage in that knee jerk reaction that eases our consciences and allows us to get on with more important things in life like- career, entertainment, keeping up with the Joneses. We fool ourselves by criticizing the status quo when we are part of it; we censure society when all in all society is just all of us. All of us who turn the other cheek or pass the buck, all of us who add to the problems by doing nothing constructive. The task is not hard you can contribute by showing respect and kindness to those you meet daily. Sometimes we find it easy to love strangers but impossible to love those we are closest to. This boy might be saying to us “Don’t save me save yourselves!”
Children are the gift we send to time that we will NOT SEE. Raise your children so that they treat people as human being rather than based on cast, creed or specially religion. This is what our DEEN teaches us but the teachings have been lost in the mist of time somewhere.
Tired innocence!
I have found the ideas of umme Hamdani and Tellis very coherent. We can start from there.
First impression of the site is quite good. Will bookmark the page before closing the tab. All the best for April Issue.
I see future of our countries hanging on a thin little thread like the boys head, looking down at the worst possible results. If his & many other heads are not lifted up to stand tall with a smile & betterment, the tread will snap & that time no “GOD” will come to help us… as he (GOD) has given us enough money, power & ability to see around, feel reality, use commonsense & share as much as we can. Share a smile instead of a frown & you will feel heaven, right here on earth!
“I CARE” – let’s say together “WE CARE”
