Why Yes!: Pen-Pals By Padash

Dario and I met the summer of 96. When the local televisions boasted of only two channels. PTV, which was finally losing its boring monopoly and NTM – or was it STN – the cool new hip channel. NTM allowed us local teens a peek into an hour of cartoons (Ninja Turtles were all the rave) an hour of a sitcoms (censored kisses on Chico and the Man) and an hour before the news of a Western Drama (Magnum P.I, quickly became a serious crush). So what else was there to do back then? If songs like Mr. Vain, What is Love and No Limits don’t bring back memories for any of you readers, you probably don’t know about that time I am so eloquently harping about. Capt Bilal shaheed was operating with his SSG (Commandos) team fellows to eliminate terrorists in Dir lower sector. He embraced shahadat at about 0615 hours early morning of 17 May 09. He went all out, right under their nose, along with his team. The peak was heavily occupied by the terrorists and the continous struggle of Captain Bilal and his team resulted in killing around 35 terrorists. They captured a heavy number of ration, weapons and ammunition.

The Brave Captain Bilal took a rocket on his chest, while clearing the last bunker on the peak and embraced shahadat at the spot. He has sacrificed his precious today to save our tomorrow, The Nation and Pakistan.

Ink Issue 2 – May 09

1. Who came up with the concept for ‘Masala Canada’ and when did it first go on air?

I’d been hosting and producing programs for India for years, and RCI (Radio Canada International) wanted me to do a new program that extended the focus to all of South Asia. The actual “concept” of the show is evolving, since I only started the show at the end of last October (2008). I guess, the most important goal for me right now is to have a variety of topics, and to have in-depth conversations with the people I interview. Continue
