Proceeds from Mamma Mia’s sale of tickets benefited Special Olympics Pakistan- an NGO founded on the belief that people with intellectual disability can, with proper instruction and encouragement, learn, enjoy and benefit from participation in individual and team sports.
Speaking on the occasion, Ronak Lakhani General Secretary and COO Special Olympics Pakistan said, “Special Olympics Pakistan has successfully provided a platform for the participation of special athletes in sports competitions at the national and international level, and has over 14,707 registered athletes. It has 750 coaches and 1000 volunteers on board and will have participated in 120 competitions in Pakistan by December 2009.”
The ultimate motive of SOP is to bring people with intellectual disabilities into mainstream society… to be accepted, and respected … to see their abilities and not their disabilities.
