Some authorities claim it; including even a few doctors believe that cleansing the skin is of no benefit other than for social reasons. While this may be so, most of us will agree that a clean skin certainly looks more healthy and attractive.

Dead cells are continually being shed by the skin, dust particles, natural secretions from sebaceous and sweat glands and stale make-up all combine to block the pores. This can create spots and blackheads, giving the skin a dull appearance; therefore, cleansing is most important procedure.

As the waste matter and surplus oils are gently removed, the skin will start to look fresher. It will be able to function more effectively. However, it is very important that one knows what type of skin is being worked on.

Types of skin

Normal skin-this type of skin has fine, even texture.  There are no open pores or greasy areas and spots or blemishes rarely develop.

Dry skin- this condition is caused by insufficient secretion of sebum. It can look and often feel tight, but will show lines and wrinkles, particularly around the eyes and mouth, from quite an early age. Anti-ageing creams or rich oily based creams should be applied as moisturisers on such skin from early age.

Sensitive skin- the skin is usually dry with fine pores. This type of skin may react to heat, cold, pressure, irritation, or nervous conditions. One has to be very careful when buying skin care products for such type of skin.

Mature skin-this skin is dry, due to insufficient moisture and sebum. Premature lines lie around the eyes and mouth as well as across the forehead. Oil based rich cleansers and moisturisers should be used to restore the moisture balance.

Dehydrated skin- this can be identified by its extreme dryness. It may appear to be tight. Again oil based products should be used to treat such skin.

Oily skin- this condition is caused by and over-secretion of the sebaceous glands. The skin surface may be uneven, having large open pores, blackheads or even pustules. Oil free products, foam based cleansers are suitable for such skin conditions, in severe cases prescribed anti-biotic from your doctor can be an answer. However, there are lot of advance beauty treatments are available in the market such as Laser Acne Treatment.

Oedematous skin- in this condition the skin looks swollen and puffy. It is caused by poor circulation and weak lymphatic drainage. Regular facials, massage, and stream can relieve such symptoms but good sleep and regular exercise are also very beneficial.

Combination skin- this type of skin is made up of both oily and dry skin. The oily skin often, but not always, forms a “T” zone across the forehead, down the nose and chin. There is lot of skin care products are available in the market which can be used.
