After the hectic magic of Term 1 in Madrid which was jam-packed with musical inspiration from Erykah Badu to MF Doom, we’re back with another two weeks of exciting sonic discovery at Red Bull Music Academy 2011.

The first Term was a great success with the action covered extensively by local Spanish channels and newspapers including TVE 1 news, TVE La2, El Pais, El Mundo and Publico, as well as International media such as MTV Canada, the UK’s Independent newspaper, Deutschlandfunk, Irish Times, Il Venerdi Italy and Vibe USA.  And with a host of media planning to attend in Term Two, there doesn’t seem to be any let up in interest.

So Term two of the 2011 Red Bull Music Academy kicked off this weekend, and the musical village inside the Matadero’s Navé de Musica sprang back to life in fine style. With the booming basslines of last term’s farewell party barely out of our ears, the switches were flicked back on, and a new team of studio experts and couch coaches arrived just before the participants landed.

Sunday night at the multi-floor club Teatro Kapital saw a glittery confetti-fuelled romp through the hits of Nile Rodgers, including several multi-platinum hits from his disco-era band Chic; followed by the otherworldly future boogie of mysterious future-disco duo Tiger & Woods.

There’s plenty more happening over at the Academy in the next two weeks, from club nights and live shows to public workshops.

Joining the line up in the coming weeks are American composer and electronic music pioneer Morton Subotnick, Wu-Tang producer turned film auteur RZA, and legend of Ghanaian highlife Gyedu Bay Ambolley. Grammy Award-winning producer and songwriter Trevor Horn, who gave his sonic touch to hits for artists such as Malcolm McLaren, Grace Jones, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Yes, Art of Noise and Pet Shop Boys, will bring his unique perspective to the Academy couch. American producer, arranger and musician Tony Visconti, known for his work with David Bowie, T-Rex and Morrissey among others, will speak at the Academy in week two of term two, as will Rock n Roll Hall of Fame inductee Bootsy Collins, synonymous with the music of Parliament-Funkadelic and the original J.B’s.
