Ali Zafar works with four playback singers from both sides of the border in LPNY0 comments

Actor-singer Ali Zafar, who has turned composer for his upcoming Bollywood movie London Paris New York, promised his fans earlier that his film’s music is not going to be conventional. It seems believable every inch now that his publicist, Ammara Hikmat, has announced on twitter that “Ali Zafar has taken two female singers from Pakistan with some killer vocals to perk up LPNY”s music”. The names of these singers have not been disclosed yet. There is a lot of speculation amongst music enthusiasts in social media circles about QB or Hadiqa being a part of this project but nothing can be said till an official announcement comes.

Ali Zafar also expressed desire to make sounds that are fresh and wanted to experiment with genres, hence got co-star Aditi Rao to sing with him. “Normally it’s either the hero or heroine who lend his or her voice to a song. But in this case, I decided we’d both sing because Aditi has a nice, soothing voice,” he reasons.

Ali admits that giving the score was tough because he was simultaneously shooting the rom-com produced by Fox Star Studio and Goldie Behl’s Rose Movies.

“The project took off suddenly and in a month’s time, we were rolling,” he reminisces.

“And since it took me to three of the most romantic cities across the world (London, Paris and New York), I used Skype to jam with my arranger back home before returning to my studio in Lahore for the recording and then mixing the tracks at Mumbai’s Yashraj Studio. Even with Aditi, I rehearsed the song on Skype since she was here in India and I was in Pakistan.”

The Pakistani star singer admits he’s been to all three culturally rich cities before, even performing live gigs there, but this time it was different because he was shooting his first reel-life love story in real time.

“The idea was for Aditi and me to be as naturally convincing as possible in our roles of two young people, Nikhil and Lalitha, connecting at different points in their lives and finding love through heartbreak and angst despite their obvious differences,” he points out.

London is Ali’s favourite city in the word, along with Mumbai and New York. But during the shoot it was in a bit of a turmoil following the riots. Paris, on the other hand, was chilly.

“I’ve never been so cold in my life before,” he admits.

“At least I could have a jacket on but Aditi, poor girl, was in a short dress and after every shot, the assistants would come running to wrap her up in a thick blanket.

Fortunately, New York was warmer and we had a great time running around the city, exploring all the places you wouldn’t usually visit as a tourist.”

The film, written and directed by debutant Anu Menon has six tracks composed by Ali. It is eyeing a February 2012 release.
