SPECIAL: Andrew Garfield [plays Peter Parker]
Tell us a bit about the Peter Parker in this Spiderman movie.
This version of Peter Parker’s story, we’ve really focused on him being an orphan and him searching for his identity and never really having a sense up till this point, where he’s guided to ultimately … being bit by this radioactive genetically engineered spider.
What is wearing the suit like?
When you first wear it it’s like okay here we are this is… I better savor this moment and it’s a surreal thing when you see yourself embodying something that has meant so much to you but there’s this really interesting thing about it that it doesn’t belong to you… Like you very very quickly realize that it’s not you in the suit. It’s just umm … you’re just doing your job you know… It has actually nothing to do with you. The suit is what people love and whatever body is in that suit doesn’t really matter. That’s what I find most wonderful about this character, that he’s everyone… he’s EVERYONE!
What do you think of Uncle Ben?
I really do love him; I have the love for him that a nephew would have for his uncle, but a good uncle. And you know he’s a very very special man. And of course as an actor he’s someone that I admire in the most profound way.
